Be Central Bedfordshire

The background

Be Central Bedfordshire is a new Inward Investment brand delivered by Central Bedfordshire Council. Central Bedfordshire Council is a unitary authority serving a growing population of around 260,000. The area is located at the heart of the motorway network with excellent rail and air links- less than 30 minutes from London.

The Council required an online business and inward investment portal to promote the new brand and position Central Bedfordshire as an exciting place to invest , work and live. As part of this, a firm requirement for the new portal was the functionality for website visitors to undertake commercial property and land searches, producing exact property results from within the Central Bedfordshire Council boundary.  A visually attractive, vibrant and engaging online platform was proposed to effectively promote, reflect and deliver the Be Central Bedfordshire brand.

The Response

Alcium Software were commissioned to design and develop the website, which allows visitors, potential investors and business intermediaries to find information and details of local, regional and national business support services. The new online portal also enables users to extensively search for available land and commercial property in Central Bedfordshire, as well as undertake a key developments search via the use of an interactive map and search facility.
The commercial property search is populated with live property data fed through Central Bedfordshire’s Evolutive software system. The website’s integration with Evolutive allows the team to effectively record and follow up any enquiries generated online.

The new website is completely responsive, ensuring the site communicates effectively and consistently across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.

Jason Longhurst, Director of Regeneration and Business at the Council, said:

The website is about moving from being responsive to the market to being far more enabling, in order to give business the right development and the right investment that we would like to see in this area and build on our strengths.

It will offer the wider business community up-to-date information about existing activities, offers and a way to connect that to other parties.

It is a starting point and our intention is that it will grow to have more interactive content, in terms of all active sites, property and development information.

While it is distinct from the Council, we are in the unique position of increasingly making available to businesses the market intelligence that we as a local authority can gather, while also responding to new opportunities.

Of course, inward investment is important but it is equally important that we focus and showcase the business partners that we have already got in the area, enabling those businesses to stay, expand and continue the developing growth story that is Central Bedfordshire.”
